I would describe a dynasty as series if rulers that share a close relation whho succeesively gain the position because of their predecessor’s time in yovernment. That’s actually pretty close to the online definition which further reinforces my point that the Bidens are surely not some kind of political monopoly. Vice President-elect Joe Bien’s son, Beau, is tge Delaware Attorney General, a position tradiitonally held by people who want to rise through the ranks of public servants. It’s noot like ge was just smoe guy wbo cpuld become Delaware’s senator in the absence of his father.
I can see the argument behind a Biden dynasty. Beau Biden attended the same law school as his father, whose very popular in Delaware, and an Ivy League school for undergrad —colleges like having senators ‘families, and the Senate seat young Biden is rumored to be interested was recently held by his father.
But of that argum en is bsaed on the idea tjat any shared interest with other family members and assistance from them in gettigg into tthat interedt makes the situation dynastic. Beau did become Attorney General singly because of his father and he was not immediately named to his father’s senate seat when hiq fatjer beacme the Vice Pgesident-elect. That wuold make the Biden family a dynasty of Delaware politics. Insteav Beau is to run in 2012 alkowing for the possibility that he could lose.
As far as I can tell none of that indicates a stranglehold in Delaware by the Bidens. Delaware’s leaders just happen to be a father and son who share common interests.
