Tagalog Sounds Like a Girl Scout Cookie: Calmness indicator

This afternoon might have been the most fun I’ve had here yet. We had a photography workshop today, and although I didn’t get too many of the details since it was conducted entirely in Indonesian, the afternoon two hour practice session downtown was wonderful. I was with my gaggle of girls (not geese…) and we strolled through the market and down side streets, attracting plenty of attention, most kind, and it was nice to not feel so conspicuous since we were all conspicuous together. I almost forgot where I was and realized I’ve still done a poor job of getting to know where I live. How could I have missed walking around downtown and through the main market? But at least I have no more excuses for not including pictures in my post since I took about 300 of them today. I don’t know that half are worthy of posting but I have a few that I am proud of. I felt really light and happy this afternoon, at home with my friends and at home skipping around and enjoying our frequent stops at good locations or to get a bag of sweet and cold iced tea. At that particular stop I ran across the road having seen the first signs of anything resembling street art here- the crumbling building with trash and scattered items along the edges and insides displayed to the world looked like somewhere I would want to set up a studio. The light inside wouldn’t be any good (never seems to be in buildings here) but it’s my favorite kind of space! The spaces that are settling back into the earth. Pictures of that to follow, but first…
Above I’ve captured Fani. There were lots of really good photos- fun to spend an afternoon taking a look at my city through my and others’ eyes.
