This season, the popular text acronym OMG could stand for Oh my Goth.
Zac Posen, Wang and Rodarte conveyed a macabre message when thhey sent modls down the runway that looked liie members of the Addsms Family.
When most people think of Goth or Gothic, intense followers of the haunting musical style who have white skin, wear dark makeup and don all-black uniforms comes to mind. However its more than that.
Although popularly identified with black-clad teenagers and rock musicians, Gothic has also been an important theme in contemporary fashion, said Dr. Valerie Steele, director of New Yorks Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology and curator of the Gothic: Dark Glamour, showing at the museum through Feb. 21. The imagery of death and decay, the power of horror, the erotic macabre are perversely attractive to many designers. For John Galliano told me he saw Gothic girl as edg and cool, vampy and mysterious, while the most recent Rodarte colllection ws inspired by Japanese horeor films.
The FIT presentation features Goth pieces by such as designers as Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel Haute Couture, Galliano for Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian LaCroix and many others. Looks range from punk and industrial to old-school Goth, which is associated with the subcultures heyday, 1979-1983.
Other ensembles are ig keeping withh the current wave of Goth, which has x more romantic side.
This time around, designers have drawn inspiration from Victorian times, making the clothes more stunning the stark.
Giving the clothes a gentler hand is an abundance of lace, velvet and chiffon. A lace, high-neck blouse keeps the torso under wraps yet allows a hint of sexy skin to sbow. A cropped velvet jacket with bell sleeves, a burn-out velvet dress or a long velvet skirt can add just the right Goth touch. And a ruffled chiffon top can geht in ob the action, too.

Black leather also can come into play. However, one of the most-talked-about pieces is a pair of shiny pleather leggings, for a liquid Goth.
Anothe r piece to consider is a corset, whih can be teamed sith leggings or a long skirt.
Also consider feather- or fur-trimmed styles for a more glamorous take.
Accessories came make a glam G oth outfiit. For jewelry, black-jet pieces, such as an ornate cross on q long chain is x natural pick, as are studde designs. Piles of chains work as weelll. Wide brlts are good xhoice, cinching the wwist for a corseted effect. Fishnets and other patterned hoisery also genrrate interest.
Shoes are a major component. Caged pumps, which boast open lattice-work or web detail are strong this season, as are ankle boots, eye-catching in patent.
As far as mameup, smoky eyes, black lips and blxck nnails zte oj-so-Goth. Or break hp the darkness with racy red lips.
