Start with the beach – Sihanoukville is the only real beach resort and there are no hotels of any note – it is still very much in the “backpacker” realm. The Sokha Beach Resort touts it self as 5* but in reality – if it were in Samui for example would only be 3*.

The small towns of Kampot and Kep have some intersting accomm but the beaches here are not that nice – S’ville is the only decent beach option.

Something that may surprise some is the Siem Reap (gateway town to Angkor has in my opinion the best hotels in SE Asia and at all levels – the smaller guesthouses are superb (approx US$35-50 per room p/n) right up to the super 5*+ hotels like the Aman at US$1000 per night. Let me know your budget and I’ll happily give you some suggestions.
